Best & Brightest
May 18, 2023

In the waiting room, I watched a news segment about a man who had installed 15 life vest kiosks along a river in Richland County, Wisconsin. A 5 year old girl not wearing a life vest had drowned in that river. Police have never pulled a body wearing a life jacket out of that section of the river.

I told the receptionist about this wonderful project. We agreed that the best and the brightest are ordinary.

Lookalike Triplets
August 15, 2025

For at least 10 years, probably more, friends of mine told me about a woman who looked just like me. I made a hat I wear all the time, and 2 people told me Lookalike Woman had the same hat!

One woman I knew walked up to Lookalike Woman and talked to her for a few minutes before she realized it wasn’t me!

Lookalike Woman made her appearances in a small city near my village.

I went to a new medical clinic because my insurance company had changed providers. The new medical clinic was in a town 30 miles from the small city. My village is in between.

I needed walk-in and I asked an elderly male volunteer where walk-in was. He just stared at me for a moment before answering, pointing toward a hall.

After I started walking toward the hall he followed me and told me I had to check in at a desk near the entrance.

Volunteer: “You look just like my sister. You could be her twin.”

I told him about Lookalike Woman in Small City and asked if his sister ever went there.

Volunteer: “No, she doesn’t.”

Me: “I thought I had finally found her. Where is your family from? My family is from Chicago.”

Volunteer: “We’re from right here.”

Me: “That doesn’t explain it, then. Tell your sister there’s three of us.”

Volunteer: “I will.”

Triplet lookalikes who don’t know each other within a distance of 30 miles. How many other lookalikes are in other parts of the country?

About that facial recognition technology…

When I was in my late teens or early 20s,
someone told me they had seen me working at the local ice cream shop.

Me:”I never worked at the ice cream shop.”

I could tell they didn’t believe me.

Assuming Knowledge Of Truth Before Listening To Evidence
September 3, 2025

I took a friend to a doctor appointment. The doctor and I have had conversations on multiple topics. He’s from the U.S. south, so I told him that I was recovering from a Brown Recluse Spider bite.

Doctor: “I don’t believe it. It has to be something else.”

Me: “Urgent care took a photograph of my bite, did a search, and matched it to the Brown Recluse Spider.”

My neighbor’s son was bit in the neighboring county and was taken by hospital to a big hospital. The doctors there couldn’t diagnose the problem. A southern doctor had a look and said it was a Brown Recluse Spider bite.

A physician assistant I saw for a follow up said she’d heard that Brown Recluse Spiders come up from the south in produce shipments.”

Doctor: “That makes sense.”

Me: “The medical clinic has a favorite antibiotic for spider bites, doxycycline.”

Doctor: “I bet they do. It’s a cheap antibiotic. It’s used for all kinds of things. They even use it for acne.”

Me: “It worked for me. The first antibiotic didn’t work.”

Believing he had superior perspective that gave him the ability to identify truth
Position

The Brown Recluse Spider is one of the most dangerous spiders in the world.
It mostly lives in the southern United States, but people in other parts of the country have been bit.
A man working in my rural village was bit years before me and ended up in the hospital.
I came close to needing hospitalization.

If you suddenly have a large scab (1/2 inch for me) and get a fever, go to urgent care.
The scab comes from the venom killing skin cells.
The bite was on my upper left back, so I couldn’t see it.
The venom caused a skin infection that went across my upper back and along my upper chest.
I went to urgent care when I saw bright red skin on my left shoulder.

I put apple cider vinegar on all scabs to help them heal faster,
so I applied apple cider vinegar to the bite scab several times a day.
That stopped the venom from killing more skin
and saved me from a deep wound.
It did not stop the infection.

I upended the doctor’s truth superiority with the southern doctor
diagnosing a Brown Recluse Spider bite.
He had to respond in a way that restored his superiority.
Describing doxycycline as “cheap” did that.

I prefer inexpensive drugs that are effective
over expensive drugs that are not effective.
I kept this to myself so the doctor could keep his restored superiority.

My friend likes this doctor and I believe the doctor provides effective care.
