Point out how manufactured stereotypes make the gossiper look bad.

High Status Resume
In 2017, I had a conversation with a man on Facebook who described himself this way:
“Int’l Finance Attorney & Animal Defender — former Captain, U.S. Air Force
Studied law at UC Berkeley”
I’ll call him Attorney Captain.
Low Status Insult
Attorney Captain supported a particular politician. Since Attorney Captain continually stereotyped the people who disagreed with him, I wrote that he was not a critical thinker. This was his response to me:
“Paula Kramer, your last name tells me everything I need to know about your unpatriotic insanity.”
This was my response to Attorney Captain:
My last name is German in origin.
I see you know nothing about your own last name, Attorney Captain.
“The historic region of Austria is the birthplace of the esteemed surname (Attorney Captain’s last name). The name is derived from “——–,” a personal name of Teutonic origin, popular in various forms throughout Europe during the Middle Ages, meaning “illustrious.” The surname was most likely first borne by the son of one called ——–”
(I included a link to the House of Names web page for ——–.)
This is the meaning for Teutonic produced by a Google search:
“denoting the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family”
If you used critical thinking, you wouldn’t give people like me the opportunity to make you look ridiculously stupid.
Attorney Captain blocked me, no doubt embarrassed by his less than “illustrious” presentation of himself on Facebook.
I’m still laughing.
